About the V/O Concierge
Bo Barker is a professional voiceover talent with what has been described as “that familiar voice with a unique tone." He had to forge his own successful road into Voiceover despite some very challenging circumstances. As a result, he has been recognized as a potential mentor and helping hand for others who are considering their own initial entrance, "re-entrance" or a more productive foray into the world of Voiceover. In order to serve those V/O ‘newbies’ and even a few ‘oldies’ as well as working pros who would like to work with him on a regular basis, Bo now offers flexible and varied consulting and assistance services in the fashion of the classic ‘Concierge’ model.
Our core client base is composed of not only active working Voice actors, but newcomers to the Voiceover world, as well as a few veterans who have sought Bo out or found us by referral from others. We know what we can do, what we can't do and who we best assist, and our fairly priced and flexible Concierge service packages reflect that. Our price model is competitive with other professional services that provide direct service in comparable consultant roles. We aim to make quality services accessible and reflective of where a new person in V/O might be personally, in their exposure and knowledge level, as well as where they may be financially. Unfortunately, there are some V/O program approaches "out there" that hit you hard and fast between the eyes - challenging your realistic learning curve and the balance in your bank account, all with the promise of turning you out as the next "Voiceover Superstar" in a very short time.
Remember folks, it takes time, investment and consistent activity and trustworthy advice and care to plant firm roots in any endeavor. "Rome was not built in a day" and your Voiceover journey will encompass more than a hefty one-time investment and a weekend session or two. That's the reality.
Today, there is no shortage of self-proclaimed "Voiceover Gurus" many of who have scarce (or No) verifiable track record as successful performers in the industry. LOOK FOR PROVEN EXPERIENCE AND a TRACK RECORD. "One or two audio-book gigs, and a smattering of local spots do not a voice over coach make!) Remember the old adage: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!"
Thankfully, we do believe taking a a good look past superfluous and lightly qualified options that are rampant, will show that there are some reputable, premium level V/O coaches, technical consultants, marketing pros, and others who are worth EVERY penny (and more) of what you might invest with them. We've become acquainted with some and it will be our pleasure to help you connect with them, when the time is best for you, your particular goals and objectives, and your pocketbook.
Bo Barker offers a unique mix of ‘hard-earned Voiceover acumen’, proven industry recognition and demonstrated success in coaching, management, mentor-ship, and development of others - in and out of the professional realm.
He was active during his Youth in competitive speaking, inordinate leadership capacities and helped to mentor peers toward success as well. It led him to helping develop Youth Bowling events and competitions throughout Iowa even while in high school. This developed into his competing for Iowa State University Cyclone Bowling, intercollegiately, and later serving as Head Coach and Program Director. Bo deepened the ISU Bowling competitive roster to include three possible Men's Intercollegiate teams and resurrected the first ISU Women's Intercollegiate bowling presence in 15 years. He personally coached and mentored these athletes on a daily basis and in tournament competitions. This led to his working in management in the bowling industry, including in management of a 52-lane center with a staff of nearly 50, when he was but 24 years of age. Bo was a respected manager and leader early on.
Bo's first exposure to a studio microphone came nearly 40 years ago when high school public speaking experiences led to recording of PSA's in the local radio station. Through extensive communications work in the business sector and in volunteer causes, Bo did studio work in the late '90s, recording regional educational and entertainment projects for a teaching ministry and a local church. Professionally, Bo became involved in the region's business community as the Regional Marketing Manager and National Mentor for the Better Business Bureau system, developing and training staff for four different BBB offices throughout the Midwest. He routinely spoke before large business and community groups, where he was often asked, "Haven't I heard you on the radio before?"
In years following, Bo was a Regional Account Representative for SMARTS Broadcast Systems in Emmetsburg, IA, a respected developer of systems for the radio broadcast industry. For 5 years, Bo worked with station owners, general managers, program directors, engineers, etc., in a 14-state region. He was frequently recognized and sought after by these broadcast professionals as possible voice talent and prospective station management. Although Bo had never worked directly in a radio station to that point, the compliments were very humbling and validating.
After years of encouragement and a level of demand, Bo finally put the wheels in motion in 2007 and officially launched ‘Bo Barker Voiceovers’ in earnest. The initial response to Bo was favorable, and he has done work for different organizations and entities across the U.S. and, indeed, around the globe. His voice has been selected over other seasoned talent to lend a distinctive flavor to nationwide product launches, independent DVD movie releases, station imaging, promotions and corporate projects.
